Choosing the best medium and style for a project depends on many factors including how the artwork will be displayed and the audience you are targeting.
An illustration may be reproduced in a print communication, on a web page, on promotional merchandise, or scaled up to a room-sized mural – and sometimes you need all four!
Your audience, subject matter, and focus will often dictate the medium best suited for the artwork. My extensive portfolio of completed projects will help narrow down the style you are seeking:
- line art and woodcut style graphics for a traditional presentation
- the colorful palette and visible brushstrokes of a hand-rendered acrylic painting capture movement and bring a scene to life
- crisp lines and spot colors communicate technical aspects without distraction
- combining both techniques in an illustrated diagram is my specialty!

CMYK, RGB, sRGB – About Embedded Color Profiles
I always work closely with the design and fabrication team to ensure my artwork meets expectations, as well as formats and specifications for reproduction
- CMYK for offset printing, RGB for digital publishing, web-safe sRGB for web graphics…
- A single illustration may have any number of uses. Individual files will be provided with embedded color profiles to reproduce consistently across various print and publishing platforms
- Bitmap or vector graphics…
- A hand-rendered painting may often be successfully converted into a scalable vector graphic, ready for a variety of uses and print enlargements
- Low resolution or dated photos can be reinterpreted as fresh, new, digital illustrations to update existing publications

Creating illustrations is only part of the job! How the artwork is supported by surrounding elements will either emphasize or confuse your message. Color palette and font selection is an important part of the process
- Connecting with your team’s Graphic Designer at the earliest stages of the illustration process is essential
- Alternatively, I will create the design and layout for your project along with the illustrations, while working closely with your content developers – you will be assured of communicating a most effective message
