Award-winning Illustrator Joyce Mihran Turley
has owned and operated Dixon Cove Design as the sole illustrator/designer for nearly 15 years. Specializing in book illustration since 1996, she enjoys working with Trade, imprints, small press, and independent publishers - in the Rocky Mountain region and beyond!
While earning her B.S. in Mathematics at Case Western Reserve University, Joyce studied painting and life drawing at the Cleveland Institute of Art. She continued her art studies at Colorado State University, establishing her illustration and design studio in the 1980s.

With my technical background and artistic nature, I offer a unique perspective on natural science and non-fiction topics. Time spent with field observation and research allows me to render scientifically accurate images with a painterly style and colorful palette, engaging readers of all ages.
Joyce has lived in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains west of Fort Collins, Colorado for over 30 years. Her illustration studio permits convenient observation of deer, coyotes, lizards, eagles and hawks - just outside the picture windows! Joyce's love of nature is reflected in much of her artwork. She shares her home with husband and hiking partner Rick, having quickly adjusted to their empty nest!

Providing images of nature to identify with companies, concepts, and products commited to sustainability and green technology is a natural offshoot of her obsession with being outdoors! Joyce will continue to illustrate books that focus on nature topics, but coming in 2011 she will add projects such as:
- Labeling for food and beverages including wine & beer labels
- Packaging for products and companies embracing sustainable processes and materials
- Advertising for travel and destinations that take activity & entertainment outdoors - to our public lands & National Parks
- Promotion of green technologies geared toward alternative energy

Joyce first exhibited at the annual National Book Industry Trade Show hosted by
PUBWEST (Publisher's Association of the West) in 2001 and for many years thereafter.

For many years, Joyce was a member of SCBWI (Society of Childrens' Book Writers and Illustrators) and served as layout artist for Kite Tales, their regional newsletter.

Joyce has also exhibited at the CIPACollege in Denver, hosted by CIPA (Colorado Independant Publishers Association). |
